Nestled in a dirt parking lot on East 6th Street, the No. 19 Bus is one of the few American produced double decker buses in existence. You won’t find a ride downtown on this bus however, but you can find the best damn Philly Cheesesteak in Austin inside.
The No. 19 Bus is another in a long line of fantastic food trucks that exist around the Austin area. It’s speciality is the cheesesteak, but they also serve hamburgers and other American grill type foods.
Today I was on a mission for a cheesesteak, and the No. 19 Bus did not disappoint me in the slightest. Heavily peppered chopped steak, generous amounts of peppers and mushrooms, and of course a massive amount of melty cheese made this one of the finest lunches I’ve had in a while.
The cheesesteak was $7.50, which is comparative to most dine-in restaurants if not a little cheaper. It was a little too hot to eat outside today (plus with my unfortunate wardrobe choice of a flannel shirt didn’t help things) so I ended up taking it back to my office to eat.
I was discussing the sandwich on Facebook, and this was my final verdict: “It’s so damned good that I’m not sure if I want to finish eating it or make sweet, sweet love to it.”
Parking is available in the adjacent lot or in the street behind it. For more on the No. 19 Bus visit their website, follow them on Twitter, or like them on Facebook.
